Is the moon an evening sun?
Which chooses to send down its light in cascades of silver
Instead of gold
And to cover us all in a blanket of lethargy
Not energy
Willing our leaded lids to close
Forcing us into a land of clouds with a gentle power
Is a firefly a firefly
and a dragonfly a dragonfly
because the dragon must arrive before the fire?
Could this be the explanation of why
The dragonfly buzzes its opalescent wings
Glistening in favor of the daylight sun
Before the firefly blinks its own yellow light
Drifting in the eternal evening breeze
As it feeds on dreams and
Stardust
Did a candle learn to flicker
because it looked up at the sky
And saw itself?
Do these words come from a basket
A chest
A closet
Or perhaps the universe is touching the page
Scratching dancing figures
Teaching them to run together across a white plane
Until they can touch the evening sun
